Let's Talk About Project Cosmos
Today, we get to do something fun, and tell y’all about what we’ve been working on at Sprocket Games.
We’re big fans of survival games. Specifically, we love the side of the genre that creates a great space for groups of friends who want to adventure, build a base, craft a bunch of new gear, and explore a world together. We have been most inspired by games like Valheim and Terraria that focus on adventuring through deeply magical, mysterious worlds.
Heroic Adventures
We wanted to add to the formula, and build the game around something new to the genre. We’re excited to introduce heroes to our adventures- a diverse cast of characters that have their own personalities and differentiated gameplay. If you want to specialize in combat and exploring dungeons, we have that hero for you. If you want to excel at building out the base and keeping it safe, we have that hero for you. If you want to find every last treasure and mystery our worlds have to offer, we have that hero for you. The heroes of Project Cosmos bring charm and personality, but also give players a clear way to play how they like and focus on their favorite part of the survival crafting experience.
A Vibrant, Magical Universe
The universe of Project Cosmos has some big problems for players to uncover, and our heroes are the first to explore and start discovering what’s going on. We envision Project Cosmos as a hopeful and optimistic game that tells a fantastic, magical story at the scale that’s normally reserved for sci-fi epics. We want every action players take to feel saturated with magic. Players go to worlds knowing they’ll have a positive impact: they’re there to solve cosmic mysteries, and along the way, they’ll leave each planet so much better than they found it.
Fast Paced Worlds To Explore
We’re building our worlds to have more bite-sized adventures than players might be used to. We want to give players more chances to try a new character, build, or crafting approach; and make it exceptionally easy to bring in new friends. With many survival games, it’s a big commitment to jump into worlds that can last hundreds of hours, with potentially dozens of hours before you get to the cool biomes/gear/crafting/etc. We want Project Cosmos to be the best way to get new players excited about survival games, while also creating worlds that even the most dedicated players will still be excited to explore after hundreds of hours.
So Much More To Share
We’ll be doing deeper dives into our unique takes on the genre soon. We still need to introduce the deeply magical universe we’ve created around Project Cosmos; our heroes' roles, challenges, and obstacles; and what you can expect to build and craft in each world, just to name a few.
We want to stress this is a very early pre-alpha game, so we have a lot still to share (and build, and polish, and test). We want to bring y’all into our process as we build Project Cosmos, get your feedback, and react, so that we can truly build this game along with the community. When we look at our favorite games, especially in the survival genre, they’re the games that got players in embarrassingly early, so we’ll be starting our pre-alpha testing in just a few weeks.
We hope you’ll join us as we show more, and if you’d like to ask questions of our dev team and get behind the scenes looks, or if you’re excited to jump into some of the early testing, join us on our brand new Discord!
