Hello friends!
Time for a quick (re)introduction. In 2022, we founded Sprocket Games to prove that a studio that focused on taking great care of devs would make great games.
Our culture is built on transparency and trust, while embracing cutting edge, research backed, studio practices. We have a four day work week, we’re full remote, and we’ve maintained a continued investment in tools and tech as we’ve built our first game. Nearly all of our experiments have focused on keeping us energized and resilient, even through challenging moments in game development and dealing with studio obstacles. Let’s just say that, with all the challenges in games in the last few years, we’ve had a very interesting test environment for these practices, but that’s probably a whole article on its own.
We also set out to build a highly diverse studio from day one. Study after study has shown that diverse teams handle complex challenges much more effectively. Sprocket’s founding team is half women and non-binary folks, and half queer. From there, we’ve prioritized adding perspectives that we lacked as we grew the company. This team culture has been very powerful as we’ve built out the IP and universe for our games, where each Sprocketeer sees something different in each character we create, and each corner of the worlds we build. We’re excited to get a few more of these wonderful Sprocketeers sharing their thoughts soon, either on here or in some short videos, so hold onto your hats!
We’re just getting started, and spending a fair bit of time dreaming up all sorts of behind the scenes stuff we can share, some stories about the mysteries of game development, and maybe just some celebrating the little wins that come with being a tiny studio in a giant industry, but we also want to hear from y’all. What do you want to know about the life of a video game studio that’s not already in a few dozen youtube videos?
Thanks for your attention!
